Mica Paintings

I am excited with my new style of fused art glass, mica paintings.  These pieces are created by drawing the image onto contact paper, carefully cutting away by layer and then painting with mica powders mixed with a medium that allows the mica to adhere to the glass.  Although time consuming I find the end result well worth the effort.  I hope you enjoy viewing these as much as I do creating them.

Underwater scenes are done freehand.  Although a shark may be the focal point the rest of scene changes from piece to piece.  I take many liberties with the creatures I add, some exist in natures others only in my mind but all join together in a playful and beautiful scene sure to bring you much enjoyment.

The photography does not capture the true beauty and color of these pieces.  I hope to perfect my picture taking skills to one day capture their true beauty.  The Edge Gallery photos were taken at the beach in Newport Oregon.  Sand and beach grass is visible in most pictures.

In the future I will be adding this new technique to my teaching schedule!

Possible Uses

I am often asked what one does with my work.  First and formost these are art pieces.  They are meant for display.  Display can be using a plate stand or a wall mounted plate stand.  Either works well.  They can also be placed directly on a flat surface although small rubber feet found in a hardware store are recommended to keep the glass from scratching the surface they sit on.

These are also functional pieces.  They are food safe and can be used to hold a variety of things.  Especially for the ocean scenes I think serving appetizers would work well.  As your guests eat the scene beneath is revealed piece by piece.

Mica Paintings are NOT microwave safe.  The glass contains metal so do NOT place in the microwave.

They should be disshwasher safe but it is probably better to hand wash.
